For Athletic Directors

Girls flag football is already here.

Nebraska girls are already playing organized flag football. The next step is creating a high school pathway that gives those athletes the opportunity to represent their schools and continue developing in the sport.

Why now

Why this conversation is happening now.

Girls flag football is expanding rapidly at the youth, high school and collegiate levels nationally. Nebraska already has athletes participating, and new collegiate opportunities are emerging within the state.

The University of Nebraska has added women’s varsity flag football and will begin its inaugural competitive season in spring 2027. Midland University and College of Saint Mary are also creating opportunities for women to continue playing.

The missing piece is a consistent high school pathway.

What we’re asking

Start with a conversation.

We’re not asking schools to make an immediate commitment to launch a program. We’re asking Nebraska Athletic Directors to:

01

Learn more

Understand the growth of girls flag football and the opportunities developing for Nebraska athletes.

02

Listen

Talk with students, families and coaches about interest within your school community.

03

Explore

Consider what high school recognition could look like and what questions schools need answered.

04

Help move it forward

Consider whether your school would be willing to help sponsor or support a proposal through the NSAA.

A statewide foundation

We want every Athletic Director in the conversation.

Only one Athletic Director is needed to sponsor the first proposal through the NSAA. But the strongest foundation comes from school leaders across Nebraska learning about the opportunity, listening to their communities and showing support.

Players, parents, coaches and supporters are reaching out because they want this opportunity to be seen and considered. That community voice helps bring the interest to your attention. Your support helps turn that interest into statewide momentum.

Broad support. One formal first step.

HELP BUILD THE FOUNDATION.
ONE ATHLETIC DIRECTOR CAN START THE PROCESS.

We need Athletic Directors across Nebraska to engage with the conversation—and one willing to sponsor the first proposal through the NSAA.
